  • Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL) Program

This 100-hour certificated TEFL Teacher Training Program prepares novice instructors to successfully teach English overseas. Our TEFL graduates receive a recommendation for employment for schools.

You will acquire a solid teaching foundation combined with hands-on practical classroom experience. Specialized sessions in language acquisition theory, teaching specific language skills, effective second language teaching methods, understanding the English language learner, classroom atmosphere and management, lesson preparation, and materials development provide you the tools you will need to successfully apply for, and perform teaching assignments abroad.

Requirements: Bachelor's degree required for job placement assistance.
  TOEFL 551/213/79, concurrent enrolment in TOEFL iBT program, or oral interview if non-native English speaker

 Monday to Friday, 9am to 3pm Thursday and Friday, 1-3:30pm
  4 Saturdays, 9am-1pm
  Classroom teaching, 2.5 hours/week
*Please note: If you are on an F-1 student visa, the 12-week TEFL program should be taken concurrently with either another ESL class or the TOEFL iBT preparation course to meet the 18-hours per week SEVIS requirement.

   

 Program Features:

  • Minimum of 25 hours of supervised classroom teaching of different levels with students of AFI College
  • 75 hours in language acquisition theory, lesson preparation, classroom management, teaching methodology and materials development
  • Ideal for students admitted to the TOEFL iBT program
  • A working knowledge of the theoretical aspects of language acquisition and techniques for practical application of research to the classroom
  • Exposure to a variety of EFL teaching methodologies
  • Experience using technology in the classroom
