have advanced English skills and are looking for an excellent TOEFL iBT
preparation course, we have the right class for you. On your first day
at school, we test your language knowledge and assign you to the correct
study level. From then on, we will assess your progress and discuss it
with you on a regular basis. This personal approach means that you develop
the language skills you need in a time frame most comfortable to you.
A F International offers two schedules:
an Intensive English program with 24 hours per week and a Semi-Intensive
English program with 18 hours per week. Both programs qualify as full-time
study for F-1 student visa holders and are open to students at all levels.
Our 24-hours per week Intensive English
program is by far the most popular and develops your overall linguistic
skills in conversation, listening comprehension, pronunciation, reading,
and writing.
INTENSIVE ENGLISH PROGRAM
Our Intensive English Program is the most comprehensive
course at A F International School of Languages Inc. It consists of a grammar
core session (Reading & Writing, Listening & Speaking) and an elective
conversation course (Vocabulary and Pronunciation). It is designed for
students who need to learn English for professional or academic reasons
as quickly as possible. Teachers cover a wide-ranging syllabus designed
to develop your overall linguistic skills through speaking and listening,
reading and writing. We offer continuous instruction throughout the year
with classes beginning every Monday. Lessons are scheduled every week during
the morning. Classes are small (individual instruction and small groups
in Westlake Village, up to 12 students in Los Angeles) to ensure a high
degree of student-teacher interaction.
Please note: Students on an F-1 visa who are interested in one of the following
courses must combine it with the morning session for a minimum of 18 hours.
Intensive Beginning English
The Intensive Beginning English program consists
of four levels, each consisting of 96 hours. Students are tested at the
end of each level before moving on to the next.
At the end of the Intensive Beginning English Program, students will have
a basic understanding of oral and written English, use elements of grammar
and form short written and oral sentences, outline some aspects of American
culture and civilization, read simple authentic literary and cultural texts,
write structured and short compositions, and practice basic oral communicative
exchange.
Core Session: Grammar, reading and writing skills, listening and speaking
skills.
Elective Session: Conversation, vocabulary and accent reduction. This session
focuses on the students ability to express themselves in everyday
situations. Students work on pronunciation, vocabulary and idioms to further
develop their conversational skills. They also receive individualized feedback
to improve their grammar and pronunciation skills.
Intensive Intermediate English
Prerequisite: Intensive Beginning English level

The Intensive Intermediate English program consists of two levels, each
consisting of 96 hours. Students are tested at the end of each level before
moving on to the next. At the end of the Intensive Intermediate program,
students will have reviewed basic English grammar and expanded their vocabulary
and use of idioms; they will be able to demonstrate an intermediate understanding
of oral and written English, use most elements of grammar and form written
and oral sentences, outline many aspects of American culture and civilization,
read authentic literary and cultural texts and write structured and short
compositions.
Core Session: Grammar, reading and writing skills, listening
and speaking skills.
Elective Session: Conversation, vocabulary and accent reduction. This session
focuses on the students ability to express themselves in everyday

Intensive High Intermediate English
Prerequisite: Intensive Intermediate English level

each consisting of 96 hours. Students are tested at the end of each level
before moving on to the next. At the end of the High Intermediate class,
students will have reviewed basic English grammar and expanded their vocabulary
and use of idioms; they will be able to demonstrate an intermediate understanding
of oral and written English, use most elements of grammar and form written
and oral sentences, outline many aspects of American culture and civilization,
read authentic literary and cultural texts and write structured and short
compositions.
Core Session: Grammar, reading and writing skills, listening
and speaking skills. Elective Session: Conversation, vocabulary and accent
reduction. This session focuses on the students ability to express

Intensive Advanced English (TOEFL-iBT Prerequisite)
Prerequisite: Intensive High Intermediate English
level 8
The Intensive Advanced English program consists of two levels, each consisting
of 96 hours. Students are tested at the end of each level before moving
on to the next. At the end of the Intensive Advanced English Program, students
will have reviewed all facets of English grammar and expanded their vocabulary
and use of idioms. Upon completion of this course, students will be able
to satisfactorily complete the TOEFL-iBT placement test.
Core Session: Grammar, reading and writing skills, listening and speaking
skills. Elective Session: Conversation, vocabulary and accent
reduction. This session focuses on the students ability to express
themselves in everyday situations. Students work on pronunciation, vocabulary
and idioms to further develop their conversational skills. They also receive
individualized feedback to improve their grammar and pronunciation skills.
English for Professionals - (1) TOEFL
iBT TOEFL Preparation:
Class size limited to 4 students.
Prerequisite: Intensive Advanced English level 10 or TOEFL
Diagnostic Pretest with a score of 480
Our students are among the most successful candidates for the new TOEFL
iBT. Their results are a tribute to the effectiveness of our Intensive
English program. Students enrolled in the advanced program receive test-taking
skills for the TOEFL and individualized feedback as needed, in addition
to pronunciation, vocabulary and idioms. Full-length practice tests simulate
actual TOEFL test conditions as much as possible. Diagnostic tests pinpoint
problem areas, and all sections - listening, grammar and reading - are
given back-to-back and are timed.
Our teachers work with you on computer-aided
programs that include past examinations to sharpen your exam taking technique.
You receive ample training and will be well prepared to take the TOEFL
iBT test.
A F International is approved as
an official Certified Test Administration Site (CTAS), to deliver ETS's
Internet-based TOEFL test and other internet-based tests on a monthly basis.
English for Professionals - (2) Business
English
The English for Professionals program is a reading, speaking, listening and writing course for
foreign born learners with at least an upper-intermediate level or advanced
level of English, through a range of activities which engage learners and
allow them to improve their English in a thorough and stimulating way.
Students in this program learn a variety
of skills needed to work competently and comfortably in an English-speaking
environment. Students perfect their spoken English skills by practicing
American English pronunciation and intonation and by acquiring a workplace
specific vocabulary and idioms required for effective communication. The
daily schedule includes a full study of English grammar and structure,
work-related topics and conversation, and listening skills. Students practice
their writing skills by preparing specific, work-related literature. Grammar
topics are reviewed and thoroughly practiced in interview situations, oral
presentations and profession-related portfolios. Special attention is given
to a variety of topics related to the culture and civilization of the United
States.
The students in the English for Professionals
program bring a wealth of life experiences to the learning process. They
are self-motivated and know what they need to learn. Our teachers are trained
to help them achieve their specific goals.
English for Professionals - (3) Individual
Instruction
We also offer one-on-one instruction where you decide on the number of
hours of instruction and the schedule of the course. Your teacher will
work very closely with you and keep you informed about your progress.
Course Outcome
At the end of the beginning level (Level 4), students will have a basic
understanding of oral and written English, use elements of grammar and
form short written and oral sentences, outline some aspects of American
culture and civilization, read simple authentic literary and cultural texts,
write structured and short compositions, and practice basic oral communicative
exchange.
At the end of the intermediate level (Level
6), students will have reviewed basic English grammar and expanded their
vocabulary and use of idioms; they will be able to demonstrate an intermediate
understanding of oral and written English, use most elements of grammar
and form written and oral sentences, outline many aspects of American culture
and civilization, read authentic literary and cultural texts and write
structured and short compositions.
At the end of the advanced level (Level
10), students will have reviewed all components of English grammar and
expanded their vocabulary and use of idioms. Students will be able to satisfactorily
complete the TOEFL Pre-test.
At the end of the TOEFL iBT program, the
students will be able to accomplish the stated goals eor tach of the four
sections of the TEFL iBT as required by colleges or universities.
